Kitchen remodel: Day 5

Day 5:  I scraped off the popcorn ceiling texture in the "kitchenette".  Now that we busted down the little wall to the kitchenette, the rooms became one and I wanted the ceiling texture to match.

I did this by myself.

Yep.  The things we do to save money, right?  There are no words.  And I have the blisters to prove it!  I am having my contractor draw a straight line, so I can make a clean end.  The popcorn ceilings continue throughout the formal living room and rest of the house.  I sooo wish I could remove them all, but had to stop somewhere.
Thanks for stopping by and have a great Saturday!

  1. What's the trick to this...did you spray with water or anything?

  5. OMG girl - I feel for you. When we bought our first condo here on Maui, before moving in we scraped off the popcorn ceiling in the ENTIRE place!! It was a NIGHTMARE! But really, so worth it - I can't believe how much just doing that updated the place! We did a few other small remodel-y things, but when we got ready to sell the condo before moving into our current house, the #1 thing we kept hearing from potential buyers was how much they loved the "clean" look of the smooth ceiling compared to the other places in the complex they were looking at! But man, that job SUCKED @$$ BIG TIME. I can't believe how much water we had to spray on that ceiling and how bad my arms hurt from scraping!! (and how HUGE of a mess it made!) - fortunately we had an empty condo so we just put drop cloths ALL OVER the place and scraped it all right onto the floor, then when we were done, gathered up the drop cloths and threw it all away, but I swear a month later we were still vacuuming up dust from that stuff that was still settling from the air!!! UGH. Your post is going to give me nightmares tonight!! LOL. But I can't wait to see the finished kitchen!! Good luck!
