Hi everyone!! Welcome to day 4 of the Sneak Peek: Spellbinders™ Summer
Spectacular! I am excited to show you two new dies templates. The first set is a new limited edition holiday set called 2012 Heirloom Ornaments.
**UPDATE: This 10 year old post is getting traction. This die set has long been discontinued! You can find currently sold Ornament die sets HERE.
And the second is a new set in the Cut/Fold/Tuck die series called
Diamond Strips and Accents. This new set of Cut/Fold/Tuck dies is a bit different,
they actually have the ability to directly die cut into your paper without
cutting a shape in addition to the ability to die cut the complete shape!
I showcased these new dies with a card as well as a scrapbook page. First up is my card:
Supply List:
S5-137 Diamond Strips and Accents MSRP $29.99
S5-116 2012 Heirloom Ornaments MSRP $24.99
GC-001 Grand Calibur®
S5-137 Diamond Strips and Accents MSRP $29.99
S5-116 2012 Heirloom Ornaments MSRP $24.99
GC-001 Grand Calibur®
Waltzingmouse Stamps: Fancy Phrases stamp
set
Other Supplies:
Versamark ink, white button, blue and green cardstock, corner rounder
I loved the idea of making the C/T/F strip within my card, so I started out by taping the die template onto the bottom of my card. I am pretty adamant for things being even, so I lined up the points of the die evenly on my working mat grid.
Here is what it looks like on the inside after you cut and
emboss this die. You may have noticed
that I used cardstock that is white on the reverse side. I chose this paper specifically so it would
show the cool tuck/fold detailing without any work on my part.
Before removing the die from the paper, I inked the inside
embossed detail with Versamark ink (this is called stenciling). Then I sprinkled glitter embossing powder
over the ink and embossed it with my heat gun.
The next step is to fold up all the little pieces. I like to use my ruler for this as it has a
pointy edge that slips right under the flap and gives it a crisp folded
edge. A tip is to start from the inside
and work your way out. That way you are
not smashing down what you just folded up with your ruler.
Here it is with all the pieces folded up. This photo also shows the glitter embossing well.
Here it is with all the pieces tucked. I photographed this on dark blue paper, so
you could see which parts were tucked and which parts were cut away.
For my card I used the 2012 Heirloom Ornament dies templates in
a different way, I made a flower blossom with the smallest Ornament die! Here is a picture showing how I did
that. I die cut /embossed 5 pieces for
each layer of the flower and 2 for the leaves.
To give the flower some stability, I adhered the "petals" to a
small circle as a base. Next I used my
big stylus to cup each petal. The leaves
were made by scoring some "leaf veins" into them with a small stylus
and giving them a slight fold.
There are many other ways you can use these dies. With the C/F/T dies, you could color the
pieces to be tucked to get a custom color combination.
You could also use double sided pattern paper for a really cool effect, or you can give it a monochromatic look by die cutting regular colored cardstock like I did here in my second project.
Regarding the ornaments on my page, I made them 3D! I did this by die cutting and embossing 3 pieces, scoring them down the middle, folding and adhere them together and gluing them flat to the page. You may not see in the photo, but before I adhered the ornaments to the paper, I threaded some beads to a stick pin and glued it to the ornament along the inside crease. Then I hung them with some coiled wire to the C/T/F strip. Lastly, I accented the ornaments with small foil die cut pieces from my stash.
