Hi everyone! Last Saturday we celebrated my youngest son's 6th birthday! He asked me to make him a dinosaur/volcano birthday cake. Well, after scouring the internet for ideas, I made him my very first "fancy cake".
I'm actually quite pleased with this cake. I made the volcano part by baking cake batter in my Pyrex 2 cup measuring cup. I made the buttercream frosting and dyed it green, red and blue for the lava, bushes and river. The rocks are crumbled up mini Oreos and Coco Crispies cereal.
Oh and do you notice the DEAD DINO? Yep, Ryan wanted me to have a dinosaur being "killed by the lava" -LOL!!!
Here's the cake in action. 3 candles are in the volcano and the other 3 are hidden by the tree, but are there.
So, now it's time to make thank you cards and I just had to use Gina K's Dino-Mite stamp set of course! I used this week's Card Pattern's sketch which was an easy one to reproduce. I cut the larger square at 2.5" and the smaller ones at 1.5" -easy peasy.

I made sure these were really simple and flat to mail. I also kept in mind that they would most likely end up in the trash, so I didn't embellish them too much -kwim? Here's a group shot:
The pattern papers I used were from MME Lime Twist and I think 1 uses some Echo Park scraps I had on my desk. The ribbons were all May Arts Twill which were the perfect thickness for the sketch and comes in LOTS of colors.
Thanks for stopping by and be sure to come by tomorrow as we at the Stamp Simply Ribbon Store are starting a new Saturday blog hop!
Please note, if you are getting an warning clicking into Sharon's store to see the twill ribbon, don't worry! Just click on thru, she is experiencing a small glitch. Everything is still working fine at the store, and it will be fixed shortly!
