Spellbinders | June 2023 Small Die and Embossing Folder of the Month

Hi everyone! It's the first of June and that means the previews for all the Spellbinders monthly club kits go live. My card today uses this month's Small Die set and the Embossing Folder. The Small die set is called Dancin' Octopus & Friends and it's another winner! It's a set of 12 underwater friends featuring an Octopus, Jelly Fish, Star Fish, Sea Kelp and a sign to hold with 2 sentiments. The Octopus has 3 layers of dies and it gives all the legs such a fun detailed look. LOVE it!

I kept this pretty simple and let the Octopus be the star of the card. I lightly water colored with a few Karin markers and die cut a few circles from it. Then I used the Embossing Folder of the Month and embossed the circles. The folder is called Splish Splash and is so cute and perfect for all your water themed cards. The Octopus is die cut from regular cardstock and is holding a sign which is water colored like the circles. I added a few splashes of color to the background and called it good. I wanted to add some of the fun sea kelp, but it just detracted from this simple card.
I love how this turned out!

Sweet Day Flowers colored two ways

Hi everyone! There's a Spellbinders Instagram hop going on now that showcases the Four Petal Collection and I'm excited to be part of it! If you have IG, head on over to my post and I give all the details including some prizes and the hop order full of inspiration!

It's been a minute since I did some coloring, so I was inspired to color the beautiful Four Petals Sweet Day Flowers stamp set flower cluster in 2 ways! I used my go-to Copics for one version and then pulled out my much neglected Karin markers for the other. Check out what I made.

Funny story and hope you all can relate. When I was photographing the cards, I planned on staging each with the coloring markers that I used. Well, I must have been distracted or something, but I GOT THEM SWITCHED! Oy. So when you look at the cards, they are actually colored with the other medium. I can't believe I didn't notice it until the hop went live. So rather than retaking the photos and fixing it, I am sharing them all kinds of wrong and all! lol!

Here is the Copic Marker colored version:

Here is the Karin marker version colored on heat embossed image:

The stamp set is designed to coordinate and fit perfectly in the Essential Four Petal Labels. The background is made using the Candy Stripes Card Front die. I took some of the negative pieces and lightly ink blended with a coordinating color and then painted a few others with a champagne shimmer watercolor.

Supplies used on both cards:
Spellbinders cardstock: Purple Mist, Teal Topaz and White
Kuretake Gansai Tambi Starry watercolor set
Catherine Pooler Pixie Dust and All That Jazz inks

Gina K Designs May release

Hi everyone! Tonight is the May release for Gina K Designs and I am SO EXCITED to share a few projects using 2 new sets. There are many other fabulous stamp and die sets in this release, so be sure to check them all out!!
The 2 sets I will be working with are:
The Best Things in Life illustrated by Lisa Hetrick
Spring Bouquets illustrated by Hanna Drapinski

First up is a card using the new Spring Bouquets stamp set. The floral clusters in this set are just STUNNING! So many possibilities. I didn't have much time to do coloring, so I opted for the faster heat embossing with Detailed White Embossing powder on vellum and colored it with ink. I love this technique on vellum, you lightly blend the ink and then wipe it off the excess. And the ink comes right off the white embossed outline.
To create the background, I ink blended on white cardstock (colors listed below) and die cut with the Basket Weave Cover Plate keeping a few of the die cut pieces in place.I added a bit of twine and a few accent gold gems for a bit of sparkle! The sentiment is from my go-to Sentiment Sheet Mixed messages.
Colors used for background:
Bubblegum Pink
TIP: when coloring vellum, chose a color 1 shade darker than you want it to appear as the vellum mutes the ink a bit. So to match the Bubblegum Pink, I colored the accent flowers with Passionate Pink and to match the Ocean Mist I used Turquoise Sea, Lucky Clover was saturated enough to stand out on its own for the leaves.
Next up is a second card used with the Spring Bouquets stamp set. This time I embossed the smaller bloom cluster and I placed it over a panel that was ink blended with some soft colors. I matted the inked panel to white cardstock die cut with a die from the Master Layouts 2 die set. I added the sentiment stamped in a soft gray ink and added a few gems and some white string.
All and all this is super simple, but very pretty.
Colors used on the background:

Next up is a mini slimline card featuring the large Morning Glory flower vine cluster from The Best Things in Life stamp set. I googled Morning Glory flowers and fell in LOVE with the super rich and bright pink and purple blooms.
I used my bright and vibrant Karin markers to color them in. I kept the design pretty simple, allowing the flowers to take center stage. I used my go-to Master Layouts 7 die set for the slimline shape.
Thank you so much for stopping by and have a great day!

Watercolored purple roses

Hi everyone! Well, I think I figured out how to have fun with water coloring. Don't expect perfection. Yeah, seems easy, right? Nope. Not for us perfectionists. But today, I just wanted to play around so I stamped out a beautiful rose from a new stamp set, scribbled some of my Karin and Zig markers on my glass mat and loosely colored in the rose petals.
I was having fun with the different shades of purple I was getting and before I knew it, I loved the result! And here is the finished card.
The stamp set called Rarest Rose from Gina K Designs, illustrated by Arjita Singh. It is SO beautiful. It has a large rose bouquet cluster, a single rose, 2 small accent flowers and a couple sprigs. I bought the set 2 months ago and finally had the chance to use it!
The card has so much water coloring that there is not much else to it. A few gem accents and a couple stripes of black cardstock and it's done!
Here's a peek at how I scribbled my color down.
Colors used:
Purples: Karin- Plum, Pale Violet/Zig -Plum Gray, Blossom Pink
Yellows: Karin -Gold, Canary/Zig -Bright Yellow
Greens: Karin -Grass/Zig -Ever Green, Olive Green

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!
