FWF Hugs shaker card

Hi everyone!  It's Friends With Flair time!  I haven't had time to play along with Unity's Friends with Flair in such a long time, so I busted out my Unity stamps and played along today.

Everything OLD is NEW again, right?  Case in point, shaker cards are all the rage right now and here's a link to my first shaker card back in 2007!  Shaker parts can be both large and small.  I made my shaker part the entire card front using my Circle dies, but I have something in the works using smaller butterflies.
Not gonna lie, shaker cards are kind of a pain to make and after several hours of fiddling with my beads and sequins I remembered WHY I didn't make many all those years ago!  I cut my foam squares in half and started to line the inside of my card frame.  After placing the small pieces down, I switched to cutting larger pieces from my foam tape roll to cover more ground.
Next I peeled the backing of the bottom portion only and stuck it to my card base.  My thought was to hold the top open and pour in the beads/sequins and then seal up the rest of the circle.  Wellll... I ended up with way too many beads, so I had to pry the top open and pour some of the beads out. Which created a hot mess with beads stuck to the adhesive pieces all over the circle.  I fixed it eventually, but I am pretty sure there is an easier way to make shaker cards.  Any tips are welcome!!

Back to my card, the image is Mug of Hugs which is from Unity's Stamps of the Week collection and I think it's ADORABLE (not sure what set the sentiment is from).  I colored the mug with Copic markers.  I used another of my charms and even used one of my purple beads match.  Go me!

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!  Here is a close up picture.

Birthday wishes circle card

Hi everyone!  After my last card, I had a couple embossing folders on my desk, so I inked up my Dotted Flowers for today's card.  I was at Michael's the other day and saw some adorable charms.  I am a sucker for pretty charms and had to buy them BUT I rarely use them.  So to make up for it, I used TWO on this card -lol!!
There are a couple ways to get ink onto your embossed cardstock.  My favorite way is to ink the folder itself.  This method presses the ink into the cardstock on the "sunken" parts of the design.  I like to use pigment ink as I think it spreads evenly on the folder (dye ink can be a bit blotchy or streaky).  I like the subtle effect of the light purple ink on this card.
Thanks for stopping by and have a great day.  Here is a close up pic of the embossing, tags and the cute little charms!

Happy hello card

Hi everyone!  I had so much fun making today's card.  I combined some of my old loves, silk ribbon, flowers and Label shaped dies!  This time I used the Labels Seventeen and to get the white panel 1/8" smaller than the black I traced the inside of the die and hand trimmed it out.  To disguise any lopsided cuts, I lightly distressed the edges before gluing it down.
I also used the Valor embossing folder.  Spellbinders folders are unique in that they are double sided, yep it's like getting 2 for the price of 1!  My card uses side B, but both sides are pretty, here they are:
Oh and see the cute little butterflies?  I cut them out of patterned paper and added a tiny gem to the center.  This card makes me happy, I love the colors and all the pretty accents!!

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!  Here's a close up picture.

Blossom Fan

Hi everyone!  Today's card uses one of the brand new In'spire line of dies called Blossom Fan.  I think this fan has a lovely design -I love the roses!

Here's what the die looks like:
My card measures 41/4" square and on the fan die cut, I sponged Versamark ink into the raised "fan pieces" for added depth and embossed some silver foil into the opening details.  Here is a picture showing how I did it.  I ended up using red for my card, but my first attempt was in pink.  You can see I trimmed the foil, glued it down on the back side and then embossed it, pushing the foil through the openings.  Kinda cool!
I used my Classic Squares LG to make a black frame and popped it up with dimensions over a Scalloped Squares frame of wood grain paper.  I glued the sentiment across the corner.
Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!  Here is a close up picture.

With Love card

Hi everyone!  Today's card has lots of sparkle and the new stamp set from Reverse Confetti, Love Blooms.  I fell in love with that set and bought the first day it was available!  I will admit I futzed and fiddled with this card for a couple days.  I'm still not sure I love it, but I do like parts of it, so here it is!

I cut off the diagonal strips of the Diagonal Chevron die cut and kept the frame and chevron bottom.  I like that you can get a completely different look by doing that.  Then I inserted some die cut pieces of gold and diamond glitter cardstock into the bottom portion.
I stamped and fussy cut out the flowers and adhered them to glitter circles.  The little accent hearts are from the Flutter Love die set.

Here's the Diagonal Chevron card front die:
Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!  Here's a close up pic to show some of the sparkle and die cuts.

Happy birthday Sharon!!

Hi everyone!  Today, along with the other girls on the Stamp Simply Ribbon Store DT, I help celebrate the birthday of the fabulous and talented Sharon Johnson!
I've known Sharon for years and she has always been an inspiration to me.  I first found her on Splitcoast Stampers way back in 2006 (gasp!).  I remember when she was the SECOND Featured Stamper honored at SCS in February 2007.  As a point of reference, they are on Featured Stamper #414 now, so that ought to tell you how talented and special Sharon is!
I chose this amazing card to case (you really should check out her entire gallery):
 I made this card:
True story -this became one of my very first "popular" cards on SCS and really helped me stretch and grow as a designer.  Over the course of next few years I learned a great deal from Sharon and I give her credit in helping me become the designer I am today.

I have been proudly working with Sharon and her online store, The Stamp Simply Ribbon Store since January 2010 (has it really been 5 years?!?) and loved every minute of it!!  Not only is she talented, but kind and generous as well.

So here's to you Sharon and I wish you a happy birthday!  I hope you have a wonderful day and a fabulous year!
I was at the store the other day and passed by the painting section and the paint chips caught my eye.  I've seen lots of projects using them on Pinterest, so I grabbed a couple.  I die cut my Hexagon frame from it and the sentiment is die cut from the darkest shade.  Pretty cool!!
Below is the hop list of the other SSRS DT girls.  Check out their blogs to see what Birthday cards and wishes they have for Sharon!  Enjoy!

Thanks a Latte ensemble

Hi everyone!  I have a cute ensemble to share today.  I made a card and a coordinating little Starbucks Via coffee holder, which can also be used for tea bags. What I like about this card is the coffee cup is on the inside with an opening die cut into the front.  I used my Ovals SM die for the opening and accented it with the nesting Scalloped Ovals SM. Gives it that extra something special.

And here's the ensemble.
The little packet holder was SUPER easy to make.  I cut a piece of white cardstock 6 1/2" x 3 1/4" and scored it at the 3" line.  Then I placed a piece of Scor-tape along both sides -viola, done!  You can adjust the size of cardstock to accommodate just about anything, but this size is perfect for Via packets and tea bags.  A little tip: Stamp your sentiment and score any lines before you adhere the sides together.
Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!  Here is a close up picture.

Snow much thanks

There is still time to enter -you have until midnight today (Tuesday 6th) to leave a comment
*************************************
Hi everyone!  I am sharing another Christmas thank you card using supplies from the Simon Says Stamp January card kit.  For this card, I used the Mr. and Mrs. Snowman die set which I thought coordinated with the "snow much thanks" sentiment.  I embellished his cute little black hat with a stamp and a tiny rhinestone.
I did the same Perfect Pearls technique for the sentiment as my last card and stamped them with black pigment ink then dabbed the purple Perfect Pearls on top.  Here's a close up pic that shows more of the purple sheen and the details of the snowman.
Here's what the die set looks like.  I die cut my snowman 3 times and adhered the layers together.  I then traced it over my smoke cardstock and cut it out as a background for him.  I cut out a small piece of orange cardstock for his nose and dabbed a blue marker for the eyes.
Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!!

Snowflake Christmas thank you

If you are looking for my Season's Givings blog post, scroll down or click HERE.
 *************************************
Hi everyone!  My card today uses supplies from the Simon Says Stamp January card kit.  This is my second kit and I have to say I am in love with this one!  I made a commitment to myself to post at least twice from each kit and I think this month you may more.

After Christmas, I like to focus on Christmas thank you cards.  I love to send Christmas thank yous not only because thank you cards are a dying tradition, but it's a chance to STILL use my adorable Christmas papers, stamps and dies!!  And let's face it, I'm not quite ready to put these away!

Today's card uses Spellbinders' fabulous 2013 Snowflake Pendant and Bracket Borders One die sets along with goodies from the kit.
OK, so part of the kit was Perfect Pearls.  At first I was disappointed because I don't really delve into technique type things and I've never used them before.  So I posted on Facebook for advise and was amazed at all the response and ways to use them!  I gave them a try and stamped my sentiment and heart accent with a black pigment ink and dabbed the purple Perfect Pearls on top.  It turned out really pretty!  It's hard to tell in the picture, but here is a close up that shows a bit of the purple sheen.
Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!!
